Disk storage

The disk space in MetaCentrum must cater for various needs, so there are several types of if:

• fast local disk /scratch
• shared network file system NFSv3 on local cluster
• shared network file system AFS on all machines
• shared network file system NFSv4 on nearly all machines
• network scratch over PVFS

Please obey the MetaCentrum rules when using the disk space. Details about your account are available at File systems.

/scratch - fast local storage

This space should be used only by currently running jobs, so any data must be removed immediately after a job finishes. A useful mechanism for this are the PBS stagein and stageout parameters.

/home NFSv3 on local cluster

Machines in a cluster share home directories of users. This space is usually not visible on other clusters, the only exception is clusters located in Brno, which share one filesystem.

/afs AFS on all machines

All machines in MetaCentrum have AFS mounted. The system is secure and scalable to the whoel world, but it is rather slow. You can mount the AFS file system on your own workstation if you want.

/storage/home NFSv4 on selected machines

It is a newer faster alternative to AFS. Is si available on machines marked by the property "nfs4" in the PBS.

PVFS

It is planned as replacement of local /scratch, but is not in the production yet.
