Hardware

MetaCentrum has a wide hardware offering. It includes big multiprocessor machines with shared memory (mat with 48CPU), clusters made of many 2 or 4 CPU PC connected by fast networks 1Gb/s (Gigabit Ethernet), 2.5Gb/s (Myrinet) and 20Gb/s (Infiniband). A middle way are PCs with 32 or 16 CPU and 64-256GB memory (eru and manwe).

The MetaCentrum's goal is to create a virtual metacomputer. That's why the individual clusters located in Brno, Prague, Pilsen and Budweis, connected by fast network backbone (10Gb/s), use load sharing system PBS and distributed file systems AFS nad NFSv4, thus forming a big virtual cluster having more than 1400 CPU.
